The Paradise Centre

Welcome to THE PARADISE CENTRE in Ely - Opened by PAT JENINGS, OBE - on Friday, 4th April 1986
The Paradise Centre consists of two main areas, the indoor sports centre and the outdoor recreational grass area,
The Centre was built by East Cambridgeshire District Council, and opened in 1986 to provide the community of Ely and surrounding areas with a much needed sports facility. The Centre is not a local authority centre, although initially built by the council it was immediately handed over to a committee, made up of affiliated club representatives, users of the Centre and the mandatory councillors. The Centre is a self-funding organisation and running costs must always come from Centre revenue.

PARADISE STATEMENT
The Paradise Centre and Miscommunication.

Over the past few years East Cambridgeshire District Council have been planning to build a new sports centre and swimming pool in Ely. The Paradise Centre would like to set the record straight because many media outlets have incorrectly assumed that The Paradise Centre itself will close when a new centre opens in Ely. The Trust that runs the centre is pleased to confirm that the Paradise Centre will not be closing. The Trust has a lease on the centre for a further 70 years. We understand that when the new centre opens in Ely, the Paradise POOL, which is run completely separately to the Paradise Centre, will close.
The Paradise Centre and Paradise Pool are connected in name only.
The Trust and staff of the Paradise Centre are pleased to confirm our continued participation in the provision of sports and recreation facilities for the growing needs of an expanding Ely and surrounding villages.

We hope this sets the record straight.
